MILPITAS – A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with a shooting over the weekend at a Milpitas hotel.
Around 4 p.m. Saturday, a male suspect fired a gun at two female victims at the Executive Inn at 95 Dempsey Road, the Milpitas Police Department said in a news release Monday.
“Thankfully, no one at the hotel was injured,” police said.
Police said the suspect was identified as a Milpitas resident who was on state parole for criminal threats. He was also wanted for a parole violation.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect for attempted homicide, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and shooting into an inhabited dwelling, police said. They also obtained a search warrant for his home and vehicle.
Around 10:20 a.m. Sunday, police spotted the suspect driving away from his home and tried to stop him. Police said the suspect “refused to pull over” and led officers in a pursuit. The chase ended when the suspect lost control of his vehicle and hit a wall near North Milpitas Boulevard and Escuela Parkway.
The suspect was taken into custody and treated for unspecified injuries at a hospital, police said. He was later booked into Santa Clara County jail for the Ramey warrant, a parole violation warrant, and charges of felony evading and misdemeanor hit-and-run.
Police said the shooting was not a random act of violence and the “involved parties … were known to one another.”
